Checklist

Before a listing goes live.

Use this checklist before a listing goes live.

Product and offer

  • The product solves a clear buyer intent, gift moment, identity, or use case.
  • The base cost, shipping cost, marketplace fees, and margin are checked.
  • The product photos show the item clearly, not just an aesthetic scene.
  • Samples are ordered before scaling winners.

Safety and compliance

  • Phrase, slogan, logo, and brand-name checks are completed.
  • Asset licenses allow the exact commercial merchandise use.
  • Canva, Envato, stock, and template assets are not used as standalone product artwork unless the license clearly allows it.
  • Etsy production partner disclosure is completed where relevant.
  • AI-generated or stock-based work is checked against marketplace policy.
Answers

Beginner POD FAQs.

Short answers for common early decisions.

Should I start with Etsy or Shopify?

Most beginners should test demand on Etsy first, then move to Shopify when they have a clearer brand, product angle, and customer acquisition plan.

Should I use Printful or Printify?

Use Printful when you want a simpler first setup and consistent experience. Use Printify when you want supplier choice, broader product comparison, and price testing.

Can I use Canva for POD?

Canva can be useful for original layouts and listing assets, but do not place Canva content on products as standalone artwork or use it as a trademark/logo element. Check Canva's current license before selling.

Can I use Envato or Creative Fabrica assets on products?

Use the official license for the exact asset. Creative Fabrica has POD-specific license rules. Envato Elements is better for store, ad, and branding assets than core product artwork because its license restricts on-demand services and merchandising where the asset is the main value.

Do I need a trademark check for every design?

Check phrases, slogans, brand names, logos, and any wording you plan to build around. Avoid using protected names, fan art, celebrities, sports teams, or brand references.

How many tools should I use at the beginning?

Use as few as possible: one provider, one design tool, one marketplace, one mockup source, and one research tool. Add more only when a real bottleneck appears.
